The AFTER

The dresser makeover is finished. It kind of dragged out longer than I wanted or anticipated. I figured it would be a one week wam-bam-thank-you-mam kind of thing. I should have known better since I was the one doing it. Regardless of the lag time, its finished! Remember what my poor old dresser looked like before?

It was a wooden mess with loose hardware, disappearing into a knotty pine background.

Now- She is just gorgeous!

After it was all said and done and I saw the finish product, I was in awe by what I had just created. I gained a new zest for making things beautiful. I felt the kind of rush I imagine a crack addict feels after their initial hit you could say, lol!

That zest carried on into today and I am continuing on with the guest bedroom transformation. I also finally broke down last night and purchased a new bedspread for the guestroom and some cheap wall decor online that I will put my personal touch on once it get’s here. The current bedspread is something cheap I bought from k-mart on a whim. It was a ghastly pink quilt pattern that somehow deceived me into thinking it looked decent in the store and would look even better on the guest bed. IT LIED! It looked horrible against the knotty pine and It gave me intense buyers remorse pains that still jab me every time I go into that room. I could have returned it, but I threw away the receipt, sure of the fact that I had made a great decision. Yet another senseless action I blame on the evil powers of the ugly quilt comforter.

Anyway, today I am starting to sand down the two small black end tables, (which, when I am finished will become one larger end table next to the bed) two shelves and a mirror that are currently in the room. The mirror actually used to be attached to Davids old dresser but it broke off. The mirror part is still in great condition, it is just no longer able to attach to the dresser. Instead of throwing it away, I figure I will paint and reuse it in the guestroom-hang it somewhere on the wall. The two end tables used to be on either side of our bed in the master, when our bed was just a mattress on the floor. They are super short, so I plan on stacking one on top of the other and nailing them together once they are painted to become one piece. . I am using the same paint I used on the dresser for these. This is what they look like now. Super short and weird, right?

And this is what the mirror looks like right now.

A sad sight. But, I will soon take care of that.

In addition to these two items, I also have two square shelves that I will be doing as well. Pictures of those to come soon.

I am juggling these projects with another fun and exciting project. Our bathroom renovation!!!!!

Yes, I have home DIY ADHD! I confess! I tried to focus on one room as so many people suggest, but it’s far too hard and far more exciting to have my hands in so many pots at once :-)

More to come about the bathroom renovation soon. We are starting phase one today!

  1. I can’t believe how smooth that dresser looks. It looks fantastic. I love the keyhole hardware also. I also have to agree that it is hard to do just one room at a time. I couldn’t do that either and here it is a year later and most of my rooms are still unfinished. Its driving me crazy!! LOL. On another note I did want to tell you that I also had knotty pine walls. I first liked them wood but then I strongly desired paint so I painted them and I liked that for a few years then I got sick of that look and wanted smooth walls. I tore the wood out one room and now I regret it. If you have a strong desire for smooth walls don’t tear out the wood. Instead put 1/4 drywall on top. Why you ask? because with the wood behind the drywall you never need anchors! It is so nice to just put stuff up without anchors (including my 55″ TV). I used 1/4″ sheet rock and since it is very thin its not a problem to put it on top. I like the wood walls also but I like to paint so they didn’t work for me. Keep that in the back of your mind… just in case.

    • Thank you! I loved how the dresser turned out too. I am so excited about it. I can’t wait to get my hands on David’s dresser in the man cave.
As for the knotty pine- When Dave and I first moved in I really did not like it AT ALL. But as we have lived in our home these past months, it has actually grown on me. It reminds me of a cozy cottage up there. I think I am going to stick with it, but if I do decide to paint it or hang drywall I know those options are out there also. Thanks for the tips. Your always so helpful! :-)
